No day is ever wasted that can be lived consciously and to the full. 2 a.m. The hour of the wolf. You wake up filled with regrets, and haunted by dashed dreams, wondering what went wrong. For Paul Lipton, a successful lawyer in his sixties, his mind’s howling in the darkness reminded him that time was slipping away. Perhaps partly because both his parents had died when they were young, and because he had already experienced his own serious health crisis, he wanted to be sure to live each day to the fullest. He decided he would start viewing each day afresh and in the now as a do-over, each night dying and each morning being reborn.

His philosophy was to say, “I am me today,” and ask, “How do I choose to live in the now?” His solution to these sleepless nights became an adventure, and an experiment in ageless living. To silence the howls of the wolf, Lipton took off in the footsteps of his fictional hero, Larry Darrell in W. Somerset Maugham’s novel The Razor’s Edge. His journey took him first to the Himalayas. He then continued his external and internal travels that included crossing the ice fields of Mont Blanc, a shamanic retreat at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California, and motorcycle adventures across Florida’s Alligator Alley, the Rocky Mountains, and the back roads of North Carolina. In the process, he discovered he was not a prisoner of the past. His changed perspective had given him a new lease on life.

Book Reviews

I consider myself a voracious reader…this book in the top 5 of all the books I have ever read. Cried, raged and nodded my head with the insight and sheer joy of this book.
Kudos to Paul R. Lipton who tells a story of hope, clarity and insight into the inevitable truth of aging.

The Hour of the Wolf makes a strong case that “age is just a number.” Through Mr. Lipton’s descriptions of his journeys in life, we understand how and why he came to accept that age should not determine your style of living or your limits, and he has demonstrated how this can be accomplished. He would like to share the joy he feels when he conquers the challenges he sets, and he demonstrates that you can keep yourself feeling and acting young if you live each moment to its fullest. This book can be an inspiration to readers of all ages. I recommend to all those who would like to enrich their lives and find peace and joy in each day.

This incredibly beautiful book captured my attention from the moment Paul began his journey to discovering his true self. A touching memoir of contemplative thought on the meaning & purpose of one’s life within a single day. It delved into the depths of his perspective on life & compelled me to shift my daily thought towards a more powerful & positive light…..this book will blow your mind with it’s honesty & compassion for each & every individual & the hero that resides within us all!!!
