March 13: Are we fungible. Like one dollar bill compared to another dollar bill. You can't tell the difference. You grab for one and it doesn't matter which one you pull out of your pocket since they are the same, accomplish the same thing and have the same function.
Are people a fungible too. Some would say yes. You have heard the argument…every one can be replaced. Here today/gone tomorrow/fill the spot…and yet, we are not a fungible. Yes, it is true that many functions performed can be replicated but some people just make a positive difference. The place is just a better place because a particular person is there. It is either more fun, more lively, more inspirational, more creative, more…fill in the blank…because that person is there. And yet, that intangible, that part that can't be figured into a calculation neatly, is sometimes overlooked. In the end it is the intangible, the x factor, that separates the narrow line between what works and what really works.
We define ourselves by our choices. We are each unique. We each bring something different to the table.
In the ageless experiment appreciate the intangible. Look for the unique. It is there waiting for you.
