She was so cheerfully helpful. She listened to the request, understood the issue, solved the problem in an efficient, delightful manner and said thanks for letting us be of service.
It all took place over the phone. It all related to an online purchase that got confused somehow and it was resolved quickly, without drama and made me smile.
A culture of service. A culture of committment. A culture of joy in the effort.
It turned out that she was one of the owners of the multi-million dollar company who answered the phone personally.
What is your company culture. Does your family have a culture that it adhers to.
It is not mere words. It is the very foundation of how you spend your day.
What is the lesson here. It is not mere haphazard activities but a core belief in what you, your family or your career stand for. When the clouds roll in, when the challenge is joined, it is the core belief that makes the difference. Not phrases. Not words. But a belief system.
Maybe service is making a comeback. Maybe the joy in the day is found in being cheerfully helpful. Try it.
An ageless experiment.
