The bow was big. Really big. It was pinned on the top of her head. It pretty much took over her whole head. It was pink, of course.
Or maybe white. Since the photo was black and white it was hard to tell. But I think pink. It probably matched the dress. Her face was wrinkle free. Young, hopeful with a little bit of mischief in her eyes.
Was she 8? Maybe 10?
Whatever age, she was full of smiles. She stood beside her whole family. The year? Hard to say. 40's? Earlier? Defintely not later.
Forever in that pink bow.
All gone now. All past tense. But there was a time when that picture was that day.
A day filled with pink bows.
When you are getting ready to frown about some minor moment in the day, can you remember her pink bow and smile.
Your child is having that moment right now. It is not in black and white. It is in color. Look in her eyes. See the mischief and laugh loud.
One day you will look back and seek out that bow. Or maybe the special hat he wants to wear.
An ageless experiment.
