The flipping coin

It is as if there is this coin flipping over and over in the air on its way to hittng the ground. Then it hits, bounces around and spins a bit and ends up heads or tails….life or death. Adventure or sameness. Doing or not doing. Being or not being. But the coin is always flipping through the air. Accident or passing by the accident. Love and friendship or strangers walking past each other on the street.

There is this randomness to it all.  And yet we all seem to be connected in some fashion to this unfolding story. But since this coin is always flipping in the air and none of us know where it will land or how it will land and heads or tails are possible at any one moment, we have to live boldly. We have to risk with some sense to the preciousness of it all.

But whether we plan or not, no matter how careful we try to be, the coin is flipping in the air and spinning toward the ground. So what to do. How to confront life with the randomness and the chance to it all.  I go back to a smile, a shrug, an honest effort, a good intention and a lightness to it all.  See the coin and know that it is those split seconds that matter. Then matter to those who matter to you.
