The Revelation of the Gate:
Where did "senior citizen" come from? Why the adjective "senior".There is a whole industry established that feeds off this adjective and ,what I believe, is a false sense of concern. A false "kindness".
There are retirement , assisted living facilities, care centers, early bird specials, park entrances and more all built into this senior category.
In some businesses there is mandatory retirement. What is the genesis of this adjective.
Not surprising it started in a political campaign in the 30s.
Yet the word has taken on a life of its own.
It is our creation…the word…yet now we are the servant of it. We created it and then act as if it is ordained from a higher being. It is anything but.
Isn't it the reality that the term, word, adjective is more for the industry it supports then the people it purports to serve.
The truth is that it is merely a way to deal with death.
Have us all on a conveyor belt so we can say it doesn't apply to the "young" and gets the rest ready for the final curtain. It is nonsense.
The word we created has a limiting effect on those who buy into it. And as you buy into it you buy into "ageism".
So,if you do not buy into the phrase, you do not buy into its limiting effect.
Refuse the label and reframe the time. It is all valuable. It is all an adventure. Don't discount any of it.
Be an activist with unlimited potential , drive, commitment and joy.
Rise up and break away from the "word".
