Peace and memory

I never read anything like it before. At least I don’t recall. I am sure that it has happened often but I never read anything like it before. It just stopped me cold. It sent a chill up my spine. I literally shuttered.

The obituary told the story of a once prominent person. A person of influence and authority. A person of some wealth and stature.  A person I had met a number of times but many many years ago. Long enough ago to have forgotten until I read the obituary.

The last sentence …the last words…the last comment was….he is not survived by any relatives. Throughout the short article there was a comment about alzheimer’s disease. So in the end he was alone and lost twice. No memory and no one to stand watch to even try to help remember the stories of a life.

That is why each day must be seized. Why each moment must be treasured. Each family member must be forgiven for minor transgressions.  Each friend embraced. Connect. Make it matter. It is so fragile. Find the peace inside to make the peace wherever you wander.

The ageless experiment.
