Three words raced through my mind as I witnessed the moment between mother and child.
It was at the checkout counter at the grocery store. Last minute supplies for a new year's celebration.
Three words.
The young child…maybe 7 years old…could have been older…was sitting in the grocery cart seat. She was staring at the ceiling lights.
She was challenged on so many levels that it would break anyone's heart.
Her mother was paying the bill and turned to touch her daughter's head. Her daughter moved her head into her mother's touch.
I wished them a happy new year.
The young mother smiled…a sad smile…and rolled the cart along toward he door.
The three words echoed through me when I reflected on the trivial issues we worry about.
How dare you.
How dare you not be grateful for your blessings.
How dare you not say a prayer for your daily gifts.
How dare you complain about your trivial daily challenges.
I closed my eyes. Said a silent prayer for these strangers and paid the bill and headed out.
Never forget.
Always remember.
Live in a state of grace.
The ageless experiment.
