Valentine's eve and the barnfire was burning bright. The group was gathered in their friend's backyard celebrating a combination of events. Valentine's Day, a birthday, a wedding and the knowledge that this combination of friends, at this time, was unique and may never be quite the same again. Maybe for no other reason than each gathering is always unique and one of a kind.
The right mix, the right mindset, the right soulful longings are a once in a lifetime moment even if the same people come together again.
We are unique and when combined with just the right ingredients it is there and then forever gone.
The chairs were huddled around the blazing fire. The temperature was just cold enough to make the hugs all the more joyful.
What caught my attention though was the music and the comment.
The Peruvian family playing guitars, drums and flute were wonderful. It felt like the shaman circle of past years.
The energy was glorious as the mixture of gentle music, flames from the fire, wine, laughter and friendship filled the air.
After the third song and the applause and joyful spontaneous hoots subsided the lead singer, in a soft voice, said that they usually play in malls and train stations and people mainly just rush by and never take the time to stop, reflect and hear the music. He was grateful we were there. It got me to wonder.
Did you ever try to listen to a song by getting lost in it. Letting your mind and spirit just float into the center of the song, a single note in a song, the soft background beat. Did you ever travel to the center of the song and linger there.
Are we in such a rush that we forgot the center of the music. Let it fill you up and then let go of all thoughts and travel to the center of a note in the music.
If we can do that we capture the moment, the inspiration, the longing, the heartache, the joy, the timeliness of it…we experience the ageless beauty of the music. Happy Valentine's Day.
