The extraordinary routine

I have a good friend who is an amazing photographer. She has the ability and gift to capture every day moments and through her talent uncover the extraordinary in what , so often , appears ordinary. A man sitting on a stool on a side street in Istanbul ,  a bird frozen in time between two buildings, friends wandering the boulevards in a bustling shopping district.

A gift to freeze time and preserve it. The routine is no longer routine. But it is her love of finding the moment to capture that fascinates me. Her eye sees things others just can’t see. It ,once again, got me thinking about seeing the extraordinary in the ordinary. Stopping to capture the beauty of the routine. Seeking out the scene that makes you appreciate the bird in flight,  the friends sipping wine at a corner bistro, a smile that establishes the truth that we can still be liberated from the heaviness that so many people want to impose on the day.

There is one picture of  the group of us just laughing at something we were watching. I don’t recall what we were staring at but I do remember the connection between friends and the letting go of the nonsense that passes for serious during the day.

Embrace the routines of the day. Photograph them in your mind.

The ageless experiment.
