February 27: And then there was the Matterhorn. The red train takes you into the Swiss village of Zermatt. Once you get off the train a horse drawn carriage takes you into a village that looks like you stepped into a Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale.
The mountain is right there and its presence in the village is all consuming.
Whether Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn, Everest, Mount Hood or the Rocky Mountain National Park , just to name a few of our mountain travels, be it on foot or on bike, it became clear to me that there was a viseral reason the mountain calls us.
Mountains are not petty. Mountains are not sneaky. Mountains do not have a hidden agenda.
Mountains are present, proud, open, clear and majestic. Mountains do not take kindly to nonsense.
Mountains don't try to be. They simply are.
Mountains don't need to prove a thing. Their very presence is their proof.
In time of doubt, in time of being confronted by the petty and the small, be the mountain.
Be present, proud, open, clear and your inherent majesty will shine through.
The mountains are ageless. Nothing about them even touches age. Rather the mountains are timeless.
Maybe that is the lesson of my journaling….it is not a question of aging, it is more about being timeless.
