It was at Namche Bizarre that we first witnessed the cremation of the deceased villager.
The horn and drum sounds broke the morning quiet as the precession made its way up the mountain slope.
It was the Himalayas on a crisp May morning.
As we worked our way up to Namche from the village of Lukla we noticed the paintings on various boulders along the way. The eyes of Buddha looked out at us from the rocks along the path.
We were then told that after the cremation the ashes are mixed with other elements and made part of the landscape along with a design of a symbol of belief such as the eyes of Buddha.
It is an amazing moment to be part of the ongoing life of the village and the loved ones from the past.
They are never gone.
Never tucked away but always present.
They are always here on the journey.
Always lighting the way. Always in our vision and thought.
Always Ageless.
