So there we were just outside of Geneva. We had made it over the French Alps in not record time. We stopped for cheese, bread and wine in a small village and sat on a hilltop overlooking Lake Geneva, sipping the wine and trying to figure out if we could make it to the ferry in time to take it across the lake and ride to the villa in the French countryside.
We just were not used to riding bicycles at such heights and over such terrain. But we kept at it, made it to the ferry, crossed the lake and rode to the villa for a well deserved rest.
The next day we got lost on the bikes outside of Evian but somehow made it back in time for dinner.
We kept thinking that part of the joy was letting ourselves get lost. Part of the journey is being a bit puzzled by the direction but venturing forward anyway.
The uncertainty of it all is such an important part of the trip.Sometimes the plan is simply experiencing the moment as it occurs and then flowing with it to see where it leads. And then not second guessing yourself. Won't change a thing anyway.
Maybe that is what being present is all about. Smiling at the exact moment you are faced with the crossroads choice, making it and riding on. There is always another crossroad in the distance. Directions can be adjusted.
Enjoy the ride.
