The staircase seemed longer. There seemed to be 50 steps instead of the 5 that were really there. The house seemed like a mansion, yet it was no different than every other house on the block of "regular" houses. The cars were just late model American made cars. At that time in life there was only General Motors or Ford in the family. Although I do seem to remember a Hudson. So as she stood at the top of the steps for her sweet sixteen birthday party with friends and family gathered , it seemed like a gala ball in a mansion. She hopped and skipped down the staircase into the living room.
For some reason that day stands out in memory. Some days just do I guess. The years have raced by,as years have a way of doing. The birthdays have come and gone. Big days all for sure. But deep inside there is a sixteen year old gliding down the staircase to greet family and friends and say thank you for coming and sharing this day. Even today. Some may not see it but we know. So to all the birthdays that have come and gone…happy sweet sixteen again. An ageless moment.
