There was a time when we were simply grateful. Not for anything in particular. Just grateful. Being appreciative of our moment in the larger story.
Grateful seems like a lost word and a lost art these days. When you meet a grateful person, an appreciative person it takes a moment to adjust.
Grateful for being. Not for having, owning, possessing, acquiring, buying or any other activity. Rather, just for being.
Grateful for being on the journey. Grateful for having the opportunity to present yourself to the universe.
Maybe that is why Thanksgiving is my favorite time of year. There is no purpose other than to give thanks for being and sharing life with friends and loved ones.
To be grateful for the moment. The extended family joining in a circle, holding hands, bowing their heads and saying nothing more than thank you.
Society hasn't figured out how to "sell" Thanksgiving. It is one of the most un-tampered with times.
The question is whether it must be relegated to only one day.
Challenge yourself. Experiment.
Live a thanksgiving each day.
Live gratitude each day. Appreciate each day.
No matter the obstacle, the challenge, the adventure or misadventure, be a person of gratitude.
It is an ageless expression of hope, caring and compassion.
