February 18: The songs of Leonard Cohen touch a spot that few singer/songwriters can touch for me. Seing him in concert was an event.
We were taken to a world that includes glory in the effort…even a failed effort. "Bird on a Wire" and "The Traitor" always swirl around in my mind. The critics. The judgments. The impossible untwining of the threads in the fabric of a life. Is it fate. Is it random circumstances. Freedom of spirit in a world full of lock downs. An honesty of purpose.
It is a one time gig as far as we know. Play the full concert. Even if it is not a one time gig, it is never going to be quite the same…the people, choices, the loves, the passions in this exact mix.
Instill in your children the wonder of the moment. The effort. The climb. In the end there is no real destination. It is all about the path and how one decides to walk it.
Maybe that is what happened in Tangboche. Realizing that there can be contentment in the being. Contentment in the worthy presentation.
In my Himalaya journal, the word that kept reappearing was contentment. Find it in your daily trek wherever you are.
It is ageless.
