We arrived on the Island of Rhodes early in the morning.
The island in the Aegan Sea was as welcoming as any could be.
But as we wandered it I was struck by just a few points that have stayed with me.
Famous for the Colossas of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, part of the kingdom of Alexander the Great and the Knights Hospitaller..later known as the Knights of Rhodes, here it was a tourist destination with shops and stores to pick up items to remember or place in a drawer.
What did it all mean. The power, the legends, the stories, the battles, the conquering heroes. As the sun set, as the winds blew, what did any of it mean.
It is all so fragile. No matter the power and majesty, influence and control..it is fragile.
So choose wisely how to be present. Pick the moments to devote your energy. Make it for something you believe means what you want to be remembered for and not some long ago overlooked Colossas.
It is an age old question. A timeless question. An ageless experiment.
